Includes links to the following topics: STREAM QUALITY ASSESSMENT WITH MACROINVERTEBRATES The first two paragraphs explain what macroinvertebrates are and why they are helpful in determining water quality. ENVIRONMENTAL INFLUENCES – Describes optimum habitat for macroinvertebrates as well as the four basic categories that describe their feeding habits. BIOLOGICAL INDICATOR ORGANISMS – Organisms are arranged by their sensitivity to pollution, i.e., Group One Taxa - Pollution Sensitive Organisms, Group Two Taxa - Pollution Intermediate Organisms, and Group Three Taxa - Pollution Tolerate Organisms. Click on one of these groups to get a graphic list of the organisms. Clicking on a particular organism will get you larger graphics and additional information about that organism. Stream buddies will fall into one of these three categories.
